Salary Review Software Case Study - Allianz

Allianz implements R.Review to manage the annual salary review process.

Allianz Australia Limited and its subsidiaries offer a wide range of insurance and risk management products and services. Allianz is one of Australia’s largest General Insurers with more than 2 million policyholders and provides some form of insurance cover to many of Australia’s top 50 BRW-listed companies. Allianz is recognised as an innovative organisation and was recently named Large General Insurance Company of the Year for 2012. This innovation and customer focus is driven by a strong corporate culture, fostered within the Allianz HR team.

Time to Update the Existing Review Process

Allianz previously managed the annual salary review by distributing password-protected spreadsheets to managers then gathering, checking and recompiling these spreadsheets into a master spreadsheet for reporting purposes. When all recommendations were finalised, letters were generated using mail merge, printed by HR and distributed to managers.

From an HR administrator’s perspective, this was extremely complex and time-consuming as Allianz have over 150 team managers responsible for salary recommendations across Australia and New Zealand with approval hierarchies up to 5 management levels deep. This approach did not allow for real-time tracking or reporting. Furthermore the process was prone to errors, offered poor data-security and did not provide an audit trail. HR administrators responsible for managing the salary review would spend time chasing, checking and re-checking data and compiling reports. Even more time was spent when team data changes required the recall, update and re-distribution of spreadsheets to managers.

From a manager’s perspective, the process lacked transparency with little visibility of their team’s progress through the recommendation hierarchy, no automated notification of changes to their recommendations and limited ability to model recommendations against their budget.

Allianz recognised that the organisation required a robust salary review system that could automate the approval process throughout their complex approval hierarchy, would provide high levels of data-security, provide a complete audit log tracking all changes to data, and increase transparency of the process through live reporting and budget tracking. Most importantly, Allianz required a solution which would save them time and money. The solution had to be intuitive and easy to use, allow for detailed reporting and provide a cost effective platform that reaches all employees.

Choosing the right solution

Allianz considered a number of options including the development of an internal, IT supported, system and review of three external systems. Allianz undertook a detailed cost benefit analysis of each option and selection was made based upon a written business case for initial funding of the project and subsequent licensing fees.

R.Review was selected due to its ease of use, complete functionality, audit log, security features, automatic generation of letters, live reports and the system’s approval workflow throughout the hierarchy.

The Solution

Remesys worked closely with the Allianz HR Team through all phases of the project to implement a solution that delivered every requirement, on time and within the allocated budget. Throughout the process, Allianz had direct access to a team of Remesys consultants.
